Saddle up book lovers! Valley View's annual Scholastic Book Fair is right around the corner. We'll kick off the book fair with Pajamarama -- a read-aloud celebration for all school families -- on Friday evening, September 15

We are very honored to have Jerry Mahoney, author of "My Rotten Stepbrother Ruined Aladdin," joining us for our festivities! After story time he will stick around for a meet and greet and book signing. There's even a rumor that he may come in his pajamas, too!

The fair will remain open for several days the following week as well.

This year's book fair theme is the Wild West... yeehaw! If you'd like to help plan, decorate, set up, cashier, read aloud or bring any other amazing skills to the table, please email

We already had our first decorating committee meeting and these are the things we would love to have to make our library look extra special:

  • Hay Bales
  • Native American art/blankets
  • Taxidermy
  • Gold mining props
  • Whiskey barrels, crates
  • Wagon wheels
  • Wooden walking sticks
  • Saddles
  • Material (denim, leather/pleather, muslin, burlap)
  • Railroad props
  • Cactus, Tumbleweeds
  • Rope
  • Feathers

We can begin collecting your props at any time in the PTA office and can return to you by September 22nd. We promise to take good care of your valuables, but would rather not have your precious antiques.

Comcast Cares Day

April 18, 2015

Over 300 volunteers from Comcast and NBCUniversal, along with their families and friends, came to Valley View to give the campus an amazing makeover! We were told there were wait lists to get signed up for our school!

Shanna Mendiola from NBCLA handed out Jamba Juice, and Pink's Hot Dogs was stationed on the campus to keep volunteers nourished. Minions paid a visit to the kiddie volunteers! NBCLA's Mekahlo Medina and Weatherman Anthony Yanez were there as well, and a DJ kept the event lively.

Monday morning, the children were ecstatic to find their campus transformed- new hopscotch squares, basketball and handball courts, four squares, running track, beautiful fences that reiterate our school motto, "The School with Heart, in the Heart of the Hills"! The Kinder yard was adorned with colorful leaf patterns and adorable ladybugs. As if it couldn't get better, NBCUniversal presented Valley View with a $15,000 check to go towards our master campus improvement plan!

The families and staff at Valley View extend our deepest gratitude to Comcast, NBCUniversal and all the volunteers who helped make Valley View the beautiful, fun campus our kids deserve!
